The Sub Stratum bioactive volcanic substrate is a high-quality terrarium soil that ensures a clean and healthy environment while promoting plant growth. Collected from the mineral-rich foothills of Japan's Aso Volcano, this natural volcanic soil is nutrient-rich, derived from andesitic and rhyolitic tephra. Its porous structure provides excellent drainage and aeration, enabling robust root development. The friable, low-density composition supports a thriving population of nitrifying bacteria, creating a sustainable terrarium ecosystem.

Usage methods:

• As a sole substrate: Add a layer of 1-2" (2.5-5 cm) to the terrarium. Rinse and replace partially every 12 months.
• As a drainage layer: Combine with biological substrates for optimal bioactivity. Use additional layers, such as BioDrain and leaf litter, to enhance drainage and provide dry shelter areas.
• Mixed with substrates: Enrich other soil mixtures with essential minerals, improve water retention, and ensure adequate air supply for plant roots.

Additional recommendations: Use treated tap water with Aquatize to remove heavy metals, chlorine, and chloramines. Regular application of Turtle Clean enhances the terrarium's biological filtration capabilities.
