Scatt is formulated to assist in the treatment of two common parasitic infections in ornamental birds—scaly face mite (Knemidokoptes pilae) and air sac mite (Sternostoma tracheacolum). These mites target budgerigars, finches, canaries, and other small species, causing tissue damage and long-term structural deformities if left unaddressed.
Scaly face mites burrow into featherless areas, consuming keratin and creating deep honeycomb-like lesions around the cere, beak, and eyelids. Progression of the infestation may also involve legs, feet, and the vent, potentially leading to painful distortions that inhibit feeding behavior. Air sac mites inhabit the respiratory system, further impacting the bird’s vitality and comfort.
