Avimec is a topical solution formulated to manage scaly face mite infestations in budgerigars. These parasites commonly burrow into featherless areas, consuming keratin and producing distinctive honeycomb-like lesions around the cere. If untreated, the mites can migrate down the beak and onto the eyelids, legs, and feet, occasionally reaching the vent, resulting in discomfort and progressive tissue damage.

This condition can impair feeding behavior and, in extreme cases, lead to life-threatening complications. Scaly face mite is highly transmissible among birds and must be addressed aviary-wide to contain infection and prevent recurrence.
