Constructed from non-toxic mesh material, it allows proper drainage while helping keep soil, bedding, and decorative top layers from mixing into the lower layer. The sheet measures 18 in (45.7 cm) by 36 in (91.4 cm) and can be trimmed or folded to match the footprint of the enclosure.

For best use, the barrier is placed directly on top of the false bottom and beneath all substrate and bedding materials, with the edges fitted closely along the interior walls of the terrarium. This layout supports a cleaner, more stable, and easier-to-maintain bioactive environment.
